Good Morning Everyone.
It seems the northwoods is slowly starting to awaken from our winter off season. As the days pass it seems a few more people start trickling back from their warmer winter haunts. Now, I am not saying it's busy, it's not, but I think we are starting to re-establish a bit of a heart beat.
Our chain of lakes, for the most part is still pretty well covered with good ice. There are some sections, in front of Greer's Pier, where the current has opened up some visible water, but for the most part, the ice has not really darkened. Even this past weekend, there were even people out on Fawn Lake and Clear, enjoying the warmer sun. We should be having good day time temps for the next week, today 63 degrees; however the nights still cool to near freezing. If we could manage to get some rains, and maintain the nice daytime temps, we could see ice out next week. However, without the rains, and the near freezing nights, we may be looking at ice out in the last week of April, pushing the fishing opening.
For those wondering about your yards, the snow for the most part is now melted. Sure, there are still some piles around, but there are plenty of open areas to start the spring time raking. After another day or so, there should only be plowed snow piles left to remind us of the past winter season.
As far as our local election last week. There was a recount requested of the town supervisors vote. I understand that recount was Monday, and the vote was unchanged. Again, Mike Bartling and Henry Bauers remain our town supervisors.
Well, that's all for today. We will have 3 really nice days to work on that yard work.
Have a great weekend. Lake level updates will begin, as soon as there is movement.
