Manitowish Waters - 4/23/2009

Good Morning Everyone,

Let the spring clean-up begin.

It looks like we are finally moving out of brief skirmish with winter early this week, although we still managed to see 4-6 inches of snow. But that is now over, the sun and warmer days are melting what ever is left on the ground. I would imagine by this afternoon, the last of this weeks winter covering will be history.
Our chain of lakes still has ice. As I mentioned earlier this week, I would still think that it may be gone as we exit the upcoming weekend. On the Dam front, there is nothing to talk about, as far as adding boards, or increasing lake levels. That will have to wait until the final ice is gone. Xcel Energy has had a crew here this week providing the Dam with new and tighter fitting boards, so that water flow can be more closely monitored and measured.
Over the next few days our weather forecasts are calling for warmer temps, and chances of showers and thunder storms. This year, again, we find ourselves desperately needing some moisture, not only from our heightened fire danger, but for more spring run off for most all of the area lakes.
For those thinking about summer, our opening of fishing is now only 10 days out, May 2nd. Maybe it's really time to shift gears, spring clean up, summer family plans, and the rest.

Enjoy your weekend, hopefully Monday we can talk about ice out, and attempts to increase the chains water levels.

Have a great day,

Rich
